An Adaptive and Hotspot Aware Taxi Zone Queuing System on Internet of Vehicles

TaxishaveavitalroleinthetransportationsystemandInternetofVehicles(IoV)techniquescanbe usedtoimprovethefuelandtimeefficienciesoftaxis.However,theexistingworkdoesnotaddressthe trafficcongestionthatmayoccurwhenalargeamountoftaxisgathersincertainqueuingareas.This paperproposesanadaptiveandhotspot-awaretaxizonequeuingsystemtodealwiththeproblemwhile stillguaranteesthefuelandtimeefficiencies.Theadaptiveschemefeaturesdatacollection,hotspot extraction,anadaptivezonequeuingprotocol,andnavigationservicesfortaxidrivers.Realdatawere collectedfromTaiwanTaxiInc.,thelargesttaxicompanyinTaiwan.Queuingzonehotspotswere identifiedthroughtheanalysisofthecollecteddata.Thehotspotsrepresented.Anavigationservice wasbasedontheproposedprotocol.Toverifythefeasibilityoftheproposedsystem,aprototypewas implemented.Theexperimentalresultsdemonstratedthattheproposedschemeoutperformedother schemesinreducingwaitingtimeandtheaveragenumberoftaxis.
